I’m a lady of simple taste. Sure, I like things like leather and non-traditional adornments just as much as the next girl, but I always come back to the classics. Put together some lace and silk, and you’ve got me.
When San Francisco-based company Andrès Intimates got in touch with me a couple of weeks back, I couldn’t have been more exited. Their products are the very epitome of classic, looking like they should be in an ivy-covered mansion belonging to an heiress (or a woman of a much higher esteem than I). I requested their Tulip Chemise in size S in the Spice color, and the matching kimono in P/S.
Their products, composed of 19mm Charmeuse silk and hand-dyed tulip lace (mine was hand-dyed by Dan, the person who got in touch with me!), are so much more than just lace and silk. The craftsmanship is skilled and the colors rich. One of the many special things about Andrès Intimates is that everything is made-to-order, and each garment is lovingly crafted from start to finish by a single person.
I was also told by Dan, the person who contacted me, that they prefer to call their workers craftsmen because of the incredible talent and passion they have for their craft. Most of the craftsmen have been with the company for over 25 years, and they’re one of the last manufacturers in the US to use some of the techniques utilized to create the garments, particularly the lace insertion. Their facility is also the last silk apparel manufacture left in San Francisco.
And you guys, all of that shows. Seriously, the quality is incredible. This is easily the nicest thing I’ve ever owned, and certainly the most luxurious. When I pulled it out of the package, I was astounded at how soft the silk was and how vivid the colors were. The way the fabric flows is the kind of stuff that inspires poetry, and it feels absolutely amazing on.
The set is completely beautiful and I can’t say enough good things about it. I love that the company stands so proudly behind their products. They’re a brand with a story and a whole lot of history, and I think that’s so cool.
The chemise is pretty short, just brushing the end of my butt. It worked for my 5’5″ frame, but if you’re on the taller or curvier side, you might want to consider their longer version of this chemise (measuring 41 inches, while this one measures 32).
The kimono is perfect for the warming weather. Its cropped silhouette makes it easy and versatile to wear, and the color, as I know I’ve said before, is absolutely stunning. Photographs don’t do the set justice.
Following this review will be a series of wonderful photographs my photographer took but didn’t fit inside the actual review.
Andrès Intimates was a brand that I hadn’t heard of prior to their contacting me, and now I’m probably one of their biggest fans. Their products are incredible in both aesthetic and quality, and I am thoroughly impressed. I also have my eye on a few of their silk camisoles, which will certainly be a worthwhile investment.
