We all have those bras with underwires that aren’t meant for our bodies. Curvy Kate, Tutti Rouge and Mimi Holliday are just some of the brands that have underwires far too wide for my narrow roots, and cups much too shallow for my projected boobs. To deal with the double boob I get from a lot of these brands, I tried sizing up and found that the bra only got wider but not more projected. This lead to the straps going into my underarms and the underwires practically reaching all the way around to my back. So I put on my thinking cap and came up with a solution: If I can bend the underwires to make them more narrow, not only will it add more projection to a narrow cup, it’ll also allow me to shape the underwires to fit my roots and makes the straps a teensy bit narrower. So I grabbed my biggest offenders (The Tutti Rouge Liliana, Mimi Holliday Paradise, Tutti Rouge Betty, and the Mimi Holliday Exotique) and started bending. I lay them flat and took the edges of the underwires (the part that’s closest to your underarm) and bent it towards the rest of the cup.
I found the difference this alteration made to be invaluable. I have very narrow roots and am constantly annoyed with the wire widths that a lot of bras come with. This alteration allows me to wear styles I couldn’t previously, and has made bras a heck of a lot more comfortable for me! If you have a similar problem or can’t seem to find wires wide enough, I highly recommend bending them to alter wire and cup shape. Te strap placement also becomes narrower (slightly, anyway) by bending the wires. Customize your underwires to you, bend them out or in just a little bit-it’s up to you! I caution you that you may need to bend them on a few separate occasions in order to get them to stay that way (with the band pulling on them and all). Otherwise, good luck, and let me know how this works out for you!
Until next time,
